セネガルで暮らすトゥアレグ族のジュエリー職人によって制作された、シルバーと黒檀の一点もののトゥアレグリング。手彫りの幾何学文様と深い黒色の黒檀が、手元に静かで彫刻的な存在感をつくります。

中央には菱形を軸にした幾何学文様が刻まれ、その両側に黒檀を組み合わせた印象的な造形。落ち着いたシルバーの輝きと黒檀のコントラストによって、小さなリングの中に力強さと繊細さが共存しています。

正面のモチーフは約W1.3 × H1.7cm。一本でしっかり存在感がありながら、装飾が過剰ではないため、日常の装いにも自然に馴染みます。

白いTシャツやシャツ、ブラック、デニム、リネンなど、シンプルな服装に合わせるだけで手元の印象を引き締めます。男性のピンキーリングとしてはもちろん、サイズが合えば女性の人差し指や中指などにも。性別を問わず楽しめるデザインです。

トゥアレグ族は、サハラ地域で長く受け継がれてきた金属加工の技術を持ち、幾何学的な彫刻を施した独自のジュエリー文化で知られています。

本品にも一つひとつ手作業で彫刻が施されており、均一な機械加工にはない線の揺らぎや彫りの表情が残されています。

中央に見られる菱形をはじめとした幾何学文様は、トゥアレグジュエリーに古くから用いられてきた意匠です。文様の意味については地域や職人によって解釈が異なるため、一つの意味に限定することはできません。その背景も含め、サハラで受け継がれてきた造形としてお楽しみください。

このリングで特に惹かれたのが、シルバーと黒檀という異なる素材の組み合わせです。

黒檀の深い黒がシルバーの彫刻を際立たせ、見る角度や光によって表情が変化します。ジュエリーでありながら、小さな彫刻作品のような造形を感じさせます。

制作した職人によると、シルバーを主体に少量の異なる金属を組み合わせることには、それぞれの素材が持つ力を重ね、身を守る願いを込める意味があるとのこと。

現地で職人から直接聞いたこの背景も、WOUETがこの一点を選んだ理由のひとつです。

Handcrafted by a Tuareg artisan living in Senegal, this one-of-a-kind ring combines silver with deep black ebony wood. Hand-engraved geometric details and the contrast between the two materials give the ring a quiet, sculptural presence.

At the center is a diamond-shaped geometric motif surrounded by finely engraved lines, with ebony set into both sides of the ring. The subtle sheen of the silver contrasts beautifully with the dark wood, creating a design that feels both strong and refined.

The front motif measures approximately W1.3 × H1.7cm. It has enough presence to be worn on its own, yet its restrained design makes it easy to incorporate into everyday styling.

Pair it with a simple white T-shirt, black shirt, linen, denim or other understated clothing to bring a subtle focal point to the hand. Depending on fit, it works particularly well as a men's pinky ring or as a statement ring for women.

Tuareg artisans are known for a long tradition of metalworking developed across the Sahara, particularly for jewelry decorated with distinctive geometric engraving.

Each line on this ring has been engraved by hand, leaving subtle variations that distinguish it from mechanically produced jewelry.

Diamond shapes and other geometric motifs have long appeared in Tuareg jewelry. Their interpretations can vary between regions, families and individual artisans, so WOUET does not assign a single definitive meaning to the design. Instead, we value these motifs as part of a visual language passed down through generations of Tuareg craftsmanship.

What particularly drew us to this piece is the combination of silver and ebony.

The deep black wood emphasizes the engraved metalwork, while changes in light reveal different details across its surface. Although wearable as jewelry, its form has the presence of a small sculptural object.

According to the artisan who made this ring, small amounts of other metals are incorporated into the predominantly silver composition as a way of bringing together the qualities of different materials with a wish for protection.

Hearing this directly from the maker became one of the reasons WOUET chose this particular piece.

Beyond decoration, it carries material, form, craftsmanship and the story of its maker. We selected it as a small piece of African art to be worn and lived with.

As each ring is made by hand, subtle variations in engraving, ebony grain and surface finish are part of its character. This particular combination of details belongs to this piece alone.

With wear, small marks, changes in the metal surface and the gradual deepening of the ebony's sheen will become part of its individual character.
