エチオピア南部高地で作られた木製の低座スツール。

This vintage wooden low stool comes from the highland cultures of southern Ethiopia.
Carved from a single block of wood it reflects everyday African craftsmanship and can also be appreciated as a piece of African art or primitive sculptural furniture for modern interiors.

Across the southern and southwestern Ethiopian highlands people traditionally live close to the ground.
Furniture in these regions often serves multiple functions including seating small tables or headrests.
This piece was likely created as a practical object used in daily life rather than as decorative furniture.

The stool is carved from one solid piece of wood.
Its structure features thick symmetrical legs and a large carved opening in the center.

This central hollow is not decorative.
It reduces weight while maintaining structural strength which is a characteristic approach in traditional Ethiopian woodcraft.

The seat has a shallow concave form allowing the body or small objects to rest naturally and securely.
The design is simple yet highly functional reflecting generations of practical knowledge.

The surface shows natural wear and drying from long use.
