This hand-forged iron figure sculpture was created by the Dogon people of Mali, West Africa.
Within Dogon culture, iron is not a common or decorative material—it is a substance deeply connected to knowledge, labor, and cultural continuity.
Objects made of iron are traditionally produced by specialized blacksmiths and are regarded as works of high value.

The sculpture is crafted from wrought iron using traditional forging techniques. Rather than casting, the iron is heated, hammered, bent, and joined by hand.
The elongated limbs and simplified body are formed like continuous lines, reflecting the Dogon approach to abstraction.
