This wooden headrest was crafted by the Sidamo (Sidama) people, who live in the highland regions of southern Ethiopia.
The Sidamo are traditionally an agrarian society, and their material culture reflects a strong emphasis on stability, durability, and functional clarity.

The form features a gently curved headrest, supported by two side posts and a distinctive arched opening at the center.
This open structure is not merely decorative—it is a functional design that reduces weight while maintaining strength, a characteristic approach found in Sidamo woodworking traditions.

The piece is carved from locally sourced hardwood, shaped entirely by hand using traditional tools.
