A traditional wooden headrest made by the Sidamo people of southern Ethiopia.
Originally created as a functional object, it is now appreciated as a sculptural piece within the context of african art and african tribal art.
Its distinctive carved structure and aged wood surface make it a unique african decor object and a one of a kind primitive sculpture.

This wooden headrest was made by the Sidamo people who live in the highland regions of southern Ethiopia.
Sidamo communities traditionally practice agriculture and maintain a settled lifestyle. Their everyday tools often reflect a preference for stability, durability and practical design, characteristics that are also evident in their woodworking traditions.

The headrest is composed of a gently curved upper support, two vertical side pillars and a central arched opening.
The open space at the center is not decorative. It is a structural solution designed to reduce weight while maintaining strength, a practical approach commonly seen in Sidamo woodcraft.

The piece is carved from locally available hardwood using hand tools such as axes and knives.
