エチオピアで制作された、木彫のミニテーブル。小さな花器やオブジェに高さをつくり、棚やサイドボードの景色を引き上げる、家具と彫刻のあいだのような木製オブジェです。

明るいブラウンの木肌、円形の上下台座、そして上部へ向かってゆるやかにすぼまる器のようなフォルム。細い支柱のあいだに空間を残した軽やかな構造が、置いた場所に立体感と視線の流れを生み出します。

この一点に惹かれたのは、素朴な木の表情と、すっと伸びるプロポーションの対比です。上下の丸い面が安定感をつくりながら、縦に伸びる支柱が空間を軽やかに見せる。小さな家具でありながら、ひとつの建築模型のような緊張感を持った造形です。

支柱には、連続する斜めの刻みが手彫りで施されています。光を受けるたびに細かな陰影が生まれ、明るい木肌に静かなリズムを加えます。文様固有の意味は確認できませんが、整った円形のフォルムに、人の手でつくられた揺らぎを与える大切なディテールです。

棚の上では、小さな陶器や花器、石のオブジェを載せる台として。サイドボードや玄関では、キャンドルや鍵など軽い小物を置く場所として。金属製シェルフ、ガラス、石、白い陶器など無機質な素材と組み合わせると、木のやわらかな色味が空間に温度を添えてくれます。

A carved wooden mini table made in Ethiopia. Designed to give small vases and objects a sense of height, it brings depth to shelves and sideboards—somewhere between a piece of furniture and a small sculpture.

Its light brown wood, circular top and base, and gently tapered upper form create a balanced silhouette. The open structure between the slender supports keeps the piece visually light while adding rhythm and dimension to the space around it.

What makes this piece compelling is the contrast between its simple materiality and its tall, considered proportions. The two rounded planes create a stable foundation, while the vertical supports draw the eye upward. Though compact in scale, it has the quiet presence of a small architectural model.

Each support is finished with a sequence of hand-carved diagonal marks. They catch the light and create delicate shadows across the lighter wood surface. While the specific meaning of this pattern is unknown, it is an important detail that brings a subtle rhythm and the irregularity of handwork to the otherwise balanced form.
