ガボンのクウェレ族による、アンテロープ（カモシカ）をモチーフとした木彫マスク。
細身の縦長フォルムと、緩やかに湾曲した角が特徴の一点ものです。

このマスクの魅力は、空間に自然に馴染みながら完成度を引き上げるバランスにあります。
高さ約40cmの縦長シルエットが壁にリズムを生み、圧迫感なく空間を引き締めます。

白壁やオーク材などの家具とは相性が良く、北欧やミニマルなインテリアにも自然に溶け込みます。
“何か足りない”と感じる細い壁面や、玄関・廊下などの限られたスペースに最も効果的です。


さらに、左右で異なる質感のコントラストが視線を引き寄せます。
片側は白いカオリン顔料、もう片側は木のブラウンが残り、シンプルでありながら印象に残る構成です。

この“分割された表情”によって、光の当たり方や見る角度によって印象が変化し、
飾るだけで空間にさりげない動きが生まれます。

上部の角は完全に閉じず、空間が抜ける構造になっているため、

クウェレ族のマスクは、その高い抽象性と造形美から、20世紀初頭の西洋美術にも影響を与えたとされます。 パブロ・ピカソ が手がけた アヴィニョンの娘たち に代表されるように、アフリカ仮面の造形はキュビスムやプリミティヴィズムの形成において重要な参照源となりました。 本作に見られる簡素化された目や鼻、そして対称性を強調したフォルムは、そうしたモダンアートの源流を体現する造形ともいえます。

素材は木を削り出したハンドカーヴィング。

Gabon Kwele Antelope Mask | A Masterpiece of African Tribal Art
