西アフリカの人面仮面を思わせる、木彫のフェイスオブジェです。棚やキャビネットに置けば、空間にひとつの強い輪郭が生まれ、周囲の本や器、植物までも引き締まって見えます。

マリ出身の販売者から買い付けた作品です。制作地・民族・本来の用途は確認できていませんが、大きく縁取られた目と、楕円の顔を二分するような高い鼻筋に惹かれた一点です。特定の文化名に頼らずとも、正面から見たときのグラフィックのような強さがあります。

丸い目穴を囲む深い彫りと、小さく抜かれた口元。限られた要素だけで顔を成立させる造形は、見る距離によって印象を変えます。少し離れて見ると端正で静かに、近づくと手彫りによる線の揺らぎや木肌の濃淡が現れます。白壁、ステンレス、ガラス、石など、硬質で明るい素材と合わせると、黒褐色の木肌がいっそう際立ちます。

本品は壁掛け用の穴・金具がなく、付属の台もありません。また、底面が平らではないため、そのまま自立させることはできません。飾る際は、小型のオブジェスタンドやイーゼルなどを別途ご用意ください。壁に取り付ける作品ではなく、棚・サイドボード・書棚の上に「立てて見せる」ためのオブジェとしてお楽しみください。高さ18cmのため、他のオブジェや花器と並べても場所を取りすぎず、視線の中心をつくれます。

表面には擦れ、小傷、彫り跡、木肌の色むらが見られます。均一ではない仕上がりも、この一点が持つ手仕事の表情としてご覧ください。

柔らかい乾いた布で、表面の埃をやさしく払ってください。水拭き、洗剤、直射日光、高温多湿は避け、転倒しない安定したスタンドと場所を選んで設置してください。

A hand-carved wooden face object whose dark surface, deep eye contours, and long raised nose create a distinct focal point in an interior.

Acquired from a seller from Mali, this piece is attributed broadly to West Africa. Its exact place of production, ethnic attribution, and original purpose are unknown. The form recalls West African face masks, yet its appeal lies above all in its direct, abstracted human presence.

The oval face is defined by large carved eye surrounds, circular openings, a slender nose running from forehead to mouth, and a small opening at the lips. From a distance, it reads as a graphic silhouette; closer up, the irregular tool marks and variation in the wood reveal the hand-carved surface.

This piece is not wall-mountable and does not stand on its own. No display stand is included. Please display it upright on a stable small easel or object stand, on a shelf, cabinet, or sideboard. At 18cm high, it is compact enough to combine with books, ceramics, or a vase while still creating a clear visual anchor.

Surface wear, small scratches, tool marks, and tonal variation are present and form part of its individual character. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water, cleaning products, direct sunlight, humidity, and unstable display surfaces.
