Their communities are tightly knit, and a spiritual culture that values connections with nature and ancestors is deeply embedded in their art, including masks and sculptures.

Lega masks are not mere decorative objects; they serve as special instruments within the Bwami society, a secretive educational system. Bwami is a structured environment for learning wisdom and ethics, and masks play an important symbolic role throughout this process.
