コンゴ民主共和国の森林地帯に暮らすレガ族が手彫りで丁寧に仕上げた、アフリカ 民芸（アート）です。プリミティブ性の高い作品であり、どこか素朴で温かみのある佇まいが魅力です。

レガ族の社会には、「ブワミ（Bwami）」と呼ばれる年齢階級制の秘密結社が存在します。
彼らは道徳や人生の知恵を代々伝える重要な役割を担い、この置物は単なる美術品ではなく、先祖から受け継がれた知恵や教訓を次世代へと伝える“生きた教科書”のような存在です。
かつてブワミのメンバーは、これらの彫刻を通じて社会のルールや正しい生き方を学んだとされています。

この彫刻には４つの顔が刻まれており、異なる視点や知識の象徴とされるほか、特定の儀式や社会的な役割を持つ人物を表しているとも考えられています。
また、過去・現在・未来のつながりを示し、時間の概念を超えた存在としての意味を持つともいわれています。

レガ族の工芸品は、単なる装飾品ではなく、精神的なメッセージを込めた重要な文化的遺産です。

This wooden tribal artwork was hand-carved with meticulous care by the Lega people, who reside in the dense forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
While deeply spiritual in nature, it also carries a certain simplicity and warmth that make it uniquely captivating.

Within Lega society, there exists a secret age-grade association known as Bwami, which plays a crucial role in passing down moral values and life wisdom through generations.
This sculpture is more than just a work of art—it serves as a “living textbook” that preserves ancestral teachings and conveys them to the next generation.
In the past, Bwami members would learn social rules and the principles of an upright life through sculptures like this one.

This sculpture features four faces, which are thought to represent different perspectives and layers of wisdom.
It may depict a significant figure within Lega rituals and social hierarchy.
Additionally, some believe it reflects the connection between past, present, and future, embodying an existence that transcends time itself.
