コンゴ民主共和国のソンゲ族（Songe / Basongye）による、伝統的な女性型キフウェベマスクです。

白の刻線を主体とした装飾と、木地の自然な色味が印象的な仕上がり。
この白は、ソンゲ族の象徴体系において清浄・調和・女性性・月と結びつけられる要素とされ、刻線の反復は秩序やバランスを視覚的に表現するものと解釈されています。

キフウェベマスクは、仮面結社「Bwadi bwa Kifwebe」によって用いられる仮面として知られ、社会的な秩序や再生と関わる儀礼の中で使用されてきたとされています。

また、このマスクは単体ではなく、ラフィア素材の衣装と組み合わせて着用されるのが特徴です。
軽く柔軟なラフィアは舞踊時の動きを強調し、マスクと一体となることで視覚的な迫力と象徴性を高める役割を持ちます。

表面に施された細やかなストライアーション（刻線）はすべて手作業によるもの。
光の当たり方によって陰影が変化し、静止していても動きを感じさせる独特のリズムを生み出します。

彩色を抑えたナチュラルなトーンは、北欧系やミニマルなインテリアとも相性が良く、壁面に飾ることで空間に奥行きとコントラストを与えます。
アフリカンアートやトライバルアートを取り入れたい空間に適した彫刻的オブジェです。

We are pleased to present a female-type Kifwebe mask, traditionally passed down by the Songe (Basongye) people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The mask is primarily decorated with white striations, leaving the natural color of the wood beautifully visible. In the Songe symbolic system, white represents purity, peace, motherhood, and the moon, and each carved line is regarded as a symbol of order and harmony. Within the ceremonial context of the mask society Bwadi bwa Kifwebe, these lines are said to embody social cohesion and regeneration.

Traditionally, the mask is not worn alone but combined with a raffia costume. The raffia is lightweight and flexible, enhancing the full-body movements of the dancer and amplifying both the visual and symbolic impact. When worn together, the mask and raffia costume fully convey the ceremonial meaning and dynamic energy of the ritual.

The intricate striations carved by hand into the wood create a unique rhythm and sense of movement as they catch the light and shadow.

Since the mask is unpainted, it also serves as a striking accent that brings the depth of African primitive art into Nordic-style or minimalist interiors.
