This bronze sculpture is a one-of-a-kind piece of African art created by
the Dogon people of Mali, West Africa.

The Dogon, who inhabit the cliffs of Bandiagara, have long preserved a unique
cosmology and rich religious traditions.
Through wood carvings and metal sculptures, they have expressed ancestral worship,
gratitude to the earth, and a worldview that connects humans with the spirits.

This particular work is interpreted as a female figure symbolizing motherhood and
fertility.

The exaggerated round abdomen embodies the presence of the Earth Mother,
the source of life, while the elongated neck and small head emphasize spiritual elevation—hallmarks of Dogon artistry, which values symbolism over literal representation.
